I never use my computer offline. The last time was for about 15 minutes last February when I took some notes at a conference while they worked to fix the wireless access.

Googleのユニバーサル検索

米グーグル、「ユニバーサル検索」の構想を発表

グーグル、「ユニバーサル検索」モデルに対応した新デザインのサイトを披露

Googleのユニバーサル検索が話題だ。

最終的にあらゆる種類のコンテンツを検索対象にしてリアルタイムで比較・ランク付けを行い、統合的な検索結果としてユーザーが探すことを望んでいた正確な情報を提供するというもの。これまでは別々の検索対象として扱っていた動画、画像、ニュース、地図、書籍、ウェブサイトなどの広範囲の情報を単一の検
索結果に組み込んでいく。

下記の例ではweb,image,videoがタブに表示される。

1ヵ月間、『Gmail』『Google Calendar』『Google Docs &
Spreadsheets』など、Google社が提供するウェブベースのサービスを利用して生活したというWiredのレポ。

最初の数日は、思いがけないことの連続だった。すべての電子メールがGmailに転送されるようにしてからほどなく、私はデスクトップの電子メールにはもう戻らないと誓った。

こうして、私のデータはついに整理整頓され、私は「Googleライフ」を満喫するようになった。だが、ブラウザーベースで仕事をする夢を、デスク
トップに縛られた仕事場という現実に組み込もうとしたとたん、Google化したワークフローにほころびが見え始めた。

現れた問題とは：

Google話：その４

Googleが与える間接的影響。

●報酬基準

シリコンバレーの労働市場の高騰には、「いい人はGoogleがひっぱってっちゃう」
が強く影響してしまっているらしい。

Googleよりよい報酬条件を出すのはスタートアップにはきつい。
もちろんGoogleに行くより新しい小さなベンチャーで活躍したいという人も
たくさんいるのでしょうけどね。

●ビジネスプラン

VCにビジネスプランをもっていくと「なんでそれをGoogleがやらないの？」
「Googleが参入して来ても勝てる理由は？」とGoogleありきでビジネスプランの批評をされるらしい。

●元Googleのエンジェル投資家

digitalbearさんのブログより：

Googleの元社員がストック・オプション売却益を利用しお金持ちになっているので、
エンジェル投資家になってやってくる。VC は桁数を増やしてファンドを設立する必要に迫られ
VC
が増資参加機会を逃し、Google
元社員だけで資金調達が完了してしまう事例がでてきているとのこと。

シリコンバレーでは、これまでもベン
チャー企業で成功した人のノウハウ・資金が、同地域で還流する仕組みが出来ていた訳だが、Google
の成功により、その流れが巨大なうねりとなり、VC をも飲み込み始めたという事なのでしょう。

Googleが「やってること」自体も影響力大ですが、至る所で色んな影響が出ているようですね。。。

4月にサンフランシスコで行われたWeb2.0Expoですが
GoogleがオフィシャルにWeb2.0ExpoのときのEric SchmidtのKeynoteをYouTubeにアップしたようです。

●John Battelleの発表があるでしょう？という質問に対して出して来たのは
「ウェブ上でプレゼンテーション資料を作成・共有できる」機能
。。。ということでMS Officeの競合になりそうだが
そんなこたないとかわすEric.

●当然のことながら観衆（及びJohn)の関心はダブルクリック買収話。

Googleは広告に力を入れており、ダブルクリックとGoogleのテクノロジーが一緒になれば
「ユーザーは自分の趣向にあった広告にアクセスでき、
広告主はターゲットカスタマーに広告を配信して効率を上げることができ
メディア企業は国際的にリーチできるようになる。」

独占禁止法に違反しているのではという指摘に対してそんなこたないとかわすEric.

「広告は１兆ドル以上の大ビジネスで、ダブルクリックはその一部に過ぎず、
広告では人々にたくさんの選択肢が与えられている。」

●次はモバイルとローカル

Google話：その2

先日、Google Japanの徳生さんのお話を伺う機会がありまして
OKを頂いたので一部ブログに書かせて頂くことにしました♪

Googleはエンジニアパラダイス。。。なのは皆さんご存知の通りですが具体的には：

●食事を会社で出してもらえる。ランチのみならず朝食も。

ちなみにどのくらいの消費量があるかというと
１ヶ月でチキン１トン／コーヒー豆725kg／パスタ226kgらしい。

ちなみにこのお食事支給政策の効能はというと

１）エンジニアが外で食べるとタイムロス。
２）外で食べるとなんだかんだ食事代がかかる
３）外で食事をしながらおしゃべりなんかした日には、情報リークが危険。

。。。などなどというわけで実はエンジニアに中で食事をして頂いた方が会社的にはいいというわけ。

●エリックシュミットもラリーペイジもセルゲイブリンも、みんなエンジニア出身

●納期のコミットなし

この話はすごい。
プロダクトマネージャとしてはそのプロダクトをマネージしなくてはいけないわけで、
エンジニアに「いつ開発が終わるのか」という質問をする。
回答は「できたときができたとき。回答不能。」

。。。え！？そんなのありえないでしょーと思って
そのエンジニアの上司にちゃんと納期作って守らせてくださいと言いに行くと反論されてしまうらしい。

「今までにない物、難易度の高い物を作ってるのでいつできるかわからなくてあたりまえ。できるのを、待て。」

ひょえええええ。。。。

ちなみにちゃんと仕事をやっているかの管理は日報メールを送ることで行われており、
イントラで全員分見ることができ、成果の上がっていない人はすぐにバレてしまう。

●業務のパーセンテージ

70%=search and ads
20%=related:extensions of core search (news, Froogle, GSA, etc)
10% Exploratory (Picasa, Wireless, Keyhole, Orkut,etc)

Google話：その1

友人がGoogleに転職したので色々話を聞いていて面白かったのが
入社するとまず「君のスキルと関心を考えると、
このプロジェクトとこのプロジェクトとこのプロジェクトがむくんじゃないかなあと思うんだけど」
と言われて、いくつかのプロジェクトに片足をつっこませてもらうことになる。

それぞれのプロジェクトを見てみたり
やっているメンバーと話をしてみたりして
これだ！と思うプロジェクトに入れるような仕組みになっているそうな。

OSXFF2.0Google Toolbarにご注意！

あーびっくりした。

本日Google Tool Barをインストールしたら何をやっても固まる。という事態に。
どうやら同じ症例の人続出らしい。

このパソコンでテレビの生放送をやっているので
あまり危険なことはしないようにしているつもりなのだが
よく使っていたGoogleToolBarでこんなことになるとは思わなかった（＞＜）

アンインストールしたら快適です。

Dem Bloggers Ready 'Google Bomb' Campaign

Dem bloggersって何だ？と思いきや。
これまた政治ネタだった。
Dem bloggersとはDemocratic-leaning bloggersのこと。

A GOOGLE SEARCH ON THE name
"George Allen"--a Republican U.S. Senator from Virginia running to
retain his seat--now returns his official Senate page as the top
organic result. But if some bloggers have their way, the top result
will instead be "New 'N Word' Woe For George Allen," a CBS News article
from September, highlighting the Senator's alleged use of a racial slur.

なるほど。実際に過去、BushやCarterの名前で"miserable failure,"John Kerryで"Waffles"のようなGoogle bombが行われていたらしい。

A coalition of Democratic-leaning bloggers are planning an en masse
search engine optimization campaign, in the form of "Google bombs," in
hopes of highlighting negative stories about GOP candidates. The
bloggers plan to manipulate the search engine's results via blog posts
that link the candidates' names to unflattering articles.

Past political Google bombs have included linking the biography pages
for President George W. Bush and former President Jimmy Carter to the
phrase "miserable failure," and the John Kerry senatorial Web site to
the word "Waffles" during the 2004 Presidential campaigns.

Googleは色々アルゴリズムを変えてGoogle Bomb対策をした。と発表しているが実際今年：

This election cycle's Google bombing is being masterminded by Chris
Bowers, author of the popular liberal blog MyDD.com. On Tuesday, Bowers
posted the code for 52 links to news articles and Wikipedia entries
detailing scandals that Republican candidates and incumbents for the
Senate and House have been involved in. Bowers on Tuesday asked that
blog authors post the links in their own blogs with the candidate's
name as the link text--thus creating inbound links on those articles,
and driving up the page rank for those pages and raising them in
Google's natural search results.

更に更に。。。

On Wednesday
night, Bowers advised blog authors to add the new "bombing" links to
their blog templates, which would retroactively add them to every post
they have ever made, creating still more inbound links to the negative
articles.

Bowers also is planning a paid search campaign to complement the Google
bombing, but declined to discuss the details of the keyword buy. On his
blog, Bowers stated: "I don't want to tip off right-wingers."

こういう小細工でなく、本論で戦ってほしいですけどね。。。

人事はあなたをググっている

ブログが就職の「落とし穴」？　ググられる学生たち

実名のブログは見られていると思った方がいいだろう。
匿名だったとしてもわかるものはわかる。

　東京のIT企業に勤めるある人事担当者（27）は、実際にネットを採用活動に使っていると話す。

　一例として挙げたのが、就職活動に関連した情報を掲載するコミュニティーサイト「みんなの就職活動日記」（みん就）だ。学生同士が情報を共有するためのサイトだが、企業としてもどんなことが書かれているか目を光らせている。その中で、どの学生がどの書き込みをしたか、特定できる場合もあるようだ。

　「面接を受けに来た後、すぐ“みん就”に書き込む学生がいる。そういう子は『ああ、あの子だな』と分かる」

Google to buy YouTube @ $1.6 billion?

だんだん信憑性を増してきましたね（汗）

Google VideoとYouTube合体の日も近いのでしょうか。。。

We know that YouTube has had informal talks with a number of companies about acquisition in the $1.5 - $2 billion range. And I suspect Google won’t be daunted by the prospect of dealing with a ton of pissed off copyright holders.

WSJ reporting on Google YouTube talks as well

The Wall St. Journal is reporting
this morning that those talks are in fact underway, according to “a
person familiar with the matter.” Journal writer Keven Delaney writes
that the talks are in early stages and could break off. The Journal
reported the same price tag that Michael did earlier, $1.6 billion.
